26 years ago today, on 16th April 1994, New Japan Pro Wrestling hosted their inaugural Super J Cup tournament at Sumo Hall in Tokyo, Japan.

Concieved by Jushin Thunder Liger, the event showcased the best performers from promotions from Asia and North America including Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling and Michinoku Pro Wrestling. In the following years, the tournament would represent wrestlers from the likes of Extreme Championship Wrestling and Lucha Libre AAA World Wide.

The card on this particular year featured wrestlers such as Taka Michinoku, Gedo, Dean Malenko, and Black Tiger (a masked Eddie Guerrero). The main event saw Wild Pegasus (Chris Benoit) defeat The Great Sasuke to win the Super J Cup.
